Drove with park brake applied and brake has now failed! PLEASE HELP!!

Post by PhilUK » Mon Mar 27, 2017 1:21 pm

Hi all,

I recently (and very stupidly) drove the car for a few miles with hand brake applied. In my defence I had just hooked up a jet ski trailer which had been parked up all winter so presumed the painful scraping noise was bad bearings on the trailer. It wasn't until the "Parking Brake Failure" warning popped up on the dash when I reached my destination that I realised my error!

I cant remember any warning sound to say I had failed to release the park brake which is odd.

Anyway, does the failure warning come up when it needs new shoes/drums or will I have caused more damage than that?

Thanks

Did you not have a large red warning light showing in the dash?  The answer is probably that it depends upon how hot everything got!  It could just need new shoes if you are very lucky  :)

Does the on/off actuator still run, but just not provide any braking force once engaged?

Until you have the wheels and drums off to check the damage it's going to be guesswork as to how bad things have got.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
