Temperature Guage

Whilst covering 300 miles yesterday, I notice that my temperature guage never reached the midway point on the guage. I know that this indicates something is wrong but I'm not sure what?

In cold weather, I have noticed the car harder to start when cold-could this be related?

Just thought I'd see if this is something I can try and cure myself rather than taking to a garage.

+1, I've just done my thermostat, and it went from 67 degrees to 88/90 degrees.
It's a fiddly job but DIY able, the worse bit is trying not to drop any bolts into the engine bay.
I also did my glowplugs and glowplug controller, again a fiddly job, that could be your cold start issue. I also removed the swirlflaps and fitted the blanking plugs whilst I had the inlet manifold off.

my Gauge was the same, didn't fancy fiddling with the car in the dark out side so I got a trusted garage to do the job and give the car a service at the same time. Genuine BMW thermostats too, £250 all in.

problem solved

don't think it would help the starting thought
