Retrofit wheel arch flare kit X5/X6

Post by PokenH00D » Fri Mar 17, 2017 3:18 pm

Has anyone had the 51710007390 Retrofit kit, wheel arch flare, for 21'' wheels fitted?
At some point in it's life before my acquisition the previous owner has opted to change the wheels from the factory delivered Streamline 297 20" to the Dual Spoke 215 21"
As I was perusing realoem earlier it came to my attention that with the 21" wheels the dealer should fit the wheel arch flare retrofit kit on the rear.
Looking at the pictures I can't figure out why, but if BMW recommend it, there must be a good reason.
They're only £15 quid a set, but what do I gain?
Ideas?

It looks like a couple of small strips of plastic (30cm perhaps) that screw to the arch somewhere - probably the rear - to control spray.  I have yet to find images of them actually fitted though.

That would make a lot of sense.
The Passat CC (300bhp 4Motion R36) I traded in had tiny little blades at the back of the arches and they deflected the road filth outwards.

The X6 is lacking

At £25 a set it won't be much.  There are piccies on line if you search for the part number with 'BMW' in front of it.

I've bought a set new £15 posted.
RealOEM only have them required for the rear, so I just ordered 1 set with 2 parts in  ;)

Having a mate studying for his master means 24/7 access to BMW installation books  ;)

Is that it?  Hard to see the point really!

From the installation manual.

Installation information
Installation of attachment parts A is only required for ECE vehicles in combination with light alloy wheels Styling 215 and Styling 239 for TÜV approval (Technical Inspection Association).

That's the only explanation.

Waste of time imo. I got a pair and was astonished they have to be worked and profiled to be made to fit.

Very lazy BMW

Hi there.

Sorry for reopening an old thread. I wondered if anyone still had access to the pics for this retro kit as I've just picked a set up. BMW are telling me this must be fitted with the newly upgraded 21inch wheels.

They seem like a waste of time but I can't find any instructions or pics anywhere to indicate where they have to be fitted on the arches.

Any info or help would be very much appreciated

Thank you in advance

All i have now is this image but they're waste of time imo. An Eibach kit on the other hand looks better and would probably be more meaningful too.

Only needed for tuv approval in Germany not in UK and a bit of a gimick anyway.
