Extended Warranty - worth it?

Post by sharpharp » Tue Jan 24, 2017 11:49 am

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask if anyone here has gone for an Extended warranty on their F25 after the initial 3 years?

My car is coming up 3 years fairly soon, so i'm not sure whether i want to keep it for another year or not. I'm waiting to see what the new G01 model looks like, but that's not out till later this year.

Can anyone who's bought the extended warranty tell me how much i'd expect to pay?
Think it's good to share this info online to get an idea of how bad the Main Stealers take the P...

is there any other ways to get an extended warranty other than via the official BMW Garages?

No doubt Condor will be along shortly, but my 2002 x5 bought at 4 years old came with extended warrantee for a year, had a new auto gearbox fitted , no quibble, had a couple of pixels in dash go out, new dash no quibble.
So if you can negotiate definitely go for it.

Thanks Brandon,

Did you go for the "Comprehensive Cover" with the basic breakdown cover or the "Drivetrain Cover"?

The letter I got was from bmw-warranty-services, so i'm mulling my options.

Anyone know if there is any other ways to get a BMW extended warranty from? Do the Dealerships have any room for negotiation? I never pay the asking price for anything, so just considering options for the extended warranty...

I'm thinking the Emergency Breakdown cover is over-rated and paying an additional £120 is OTT when you can wrangle AA/Greenflag etc for an 8th of that price if needed for Home Rescue, onward travel etc.

What you guys think?
Also, I don't always believe these wear and tear warranties, they always seem to come up with a way to get out of them

Thanks for the insight Condor,

One thing i'm unsure off is if "Carbon Build-up" is covered under the Comprehensive extended warranty, anyone know?

I have mine in tomorrow at the dealers, as it's almost 3 years old I got a letter asking to get an "end of warranty check" done. Is there any things I should ask them to check on in particular? Is it worth asking them to check the DPF and any carbon buid-up and clean while still a few weeks left on the original manufacturers 3 year warranty?

Thanks
