Fuse , relay , module ........... I have no idea !

Post by benscab » Sun Mar 05, 2017 1:18 am

So , bought my x5 3.0i 2003 and it already had the 3 yellow lights on, thinking it would be just a speed sensor i bought it anyway. Checked speed sensors, all good, maybe a low battery voltage issue ?  replaced battery, lights still on !. Sent abs module away for testing and repair (repaires grd and main supply). Refitted said module and could then and only then access it using inpa , but still could only get lights to go off periodically. Replaced steering angle sensor, coded it to the car, lights still on !
Now getting the following faults :
Diagnostic trouble 1000 (fault in data transmission to control unit)
IFH-0009 ECU not connected or not responding.
EWS3 data not found
LEW internal fault EEPROM frequency 17
Wheel slip no communication possible
Diagnosis bus error no 200.95
B3450_E83vers/supply21
check following
TERMINAL 31
VOLTAGE SUPPLY 87<51
K_LINE DIAGNOSIS CABLE PIN 17
CAN BUS CONNECTION.

ANY IDEAS ANYONE PLEASE ?

Have you taken it to a dealer or specialist? Maybe they can fix it for you.

A dealer may well firmly remove your pants, but a small local garage (with the right knowledge) is unlikely to. You may even be better with one of those mobile auto electrician.

Do you know any good local garages?

Have a look at Henrym3 sots about ABS. He said he had had his repaired nd pretty much believed it couldn't be that. i concluded it was either faulty or damaged somehow during fitting. he took it out and cleaned it with WD40 as I recall (but best ask him) and then it worked.

Maybe worth having a discussion direct with him. If it is something like that a garage probably wouldn't pick it up, they would probably just replace said module. Assuming it is that of course.

Smee seems to have an uncanny memory, can't be very old. My module did play up after it was"fixed". To be fair, the repairer was right it seems that whilst away being repaired the disconnected plug absorbed some moisture and this caused additional problems, WD40 was my friend. All fixed now.

Most of the fault codes relate to communication problems, as Henry has experienced, a bad cable or connection is my guess,

There is a fuse that covers the obd socket in the fuse box.... I've had that blow before and it caused communication issues
Other than that I hate to say it but I think your gonna have to bite the bullet and find a good/excellent auto spark
It's all probably down to a broken wire or a dirty connection but there a so many interconnected systems on the X5 that you may never find it without specialist help
