Carly Coding

So got a new adapter, works fine.

Programmed folding mirrors, fine, all works well.

Tried to code the indicator's to show on the head up display, said code was successful, but don't the indicators don't show?!

Also, follow home lights programmed but not working?

Any ideas?

In Carly, I've found that a lot of coding options actually require you to select more than one "tick box"

An example is "window tip" where I seem to remember there are several options such as "window tip driver's door 1, 2 and 3" and all 3 need to be ticked for it to work.

Indicators in HUD doesn't work for me either. I logged a support call with Carly a year ago, which they acknowledged,  but they never fixed it. Sadly, I think they are too busy developing the coding options for F series cars to do anything further with E70s these days.

I tried using it to code my F12 640 and that was pretty hit and miss too.

Seems like money down the drain here, unless I am doing something wrong?

Functions coded:

Follow me home lights, activated flash to pass as stated, with engine off - doesn't work. ETA - you have to flash your main beam after ignition off to activate this, not as it should be in my mind, but hey ho.
Optical confirmation of alarm set and unset - doesn't work.
Indicators in HUD - doesn't work.
Mirrors folding upon locking - worked, wanted a delay, coded that - doesn't work. ETA - working now! odd!

Any pointers? All coding done with engine running, all stated to be successful.

Its worked perfectly on my E70, but I don't have (or want) HUD so didn't do that one. Try deleting and reinstalling the app perhaps?

What works will depend upon model year and what the car system actually supports, which versions of the modules and firmware are on board and what options were/are installed.  Not all coding will work if the car doesn't actually support the change, even if the coded 'code word' (binary or Hex sequence) is successfully stored.  If the system cannot support the coded change then nothing happens.

Modules contain firmware.  Different firmware does different things.  You can code something with Carly, but if the firmware doesn't understand the code, or does not have the function in that version, nothing happens.

The same modules are used on lots of cars so the coding interface (the bit we use) is the same, but what lies underneath it (the firmware) is different for each car and also varies year by year.  What you are trying to code may not be 'understood' by the firmware as the version you have does not support your coding.  In that case it has no effect.

Carly knows the models and the interface but not the individual car firmware so will try to request what you want.  The car may not support it.

The only way to be certain that a code command will work with your actual car is with a copy of the full BMW software suite that BMW garages have, and that is very expensive.

I thought coding was done with the "ign" on and the engine NOT running?

We have done all coding with the engine running as the system is prone to shut down after a while without the engine running, which could leave the coding unstable.

Because they have a stop/start button rather than a traditional ign?

Yes, both the E70 and the 140 have the start button and the system shuts down after a while.
