Knocking on the front drivers side

Post by Jowniofownio212 » Sat Feb 25, 2017 8:52 pm

Hello

There seems to be a knocking on to the front drivers side. I have looked under and can see a minor split on the bush on the track control arm very minor so a little bit of play. Also the camber arm ball joint boot looks very warn but I can't feel any play on it. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Check the link arms of the ARB, remember you must check from a pit ie both wheels on the ground with a pry bar or vehicle jacked up with both wheels off the ground.

Not long finished investigating a similar knock on my brother's X5. New drop links, lower balljoints and front lower track control arms and turns out the damper was goosed. Needed to be done and has tightened up the front end.

You can normally rule out the track rod arm by jacking up the car and holding the wheel at a 10 to 2 position and try lateral movement. Thing is - the X5's almost truck like characteristics render this operation difficult.

The ARB links invariable wear out prematurely. They're relatively inexpensive. Fit OE specification or Meyle HD.  ;)

There is a little bit of play in the arb link bar. Very small amount but I take it that would give a light knocking.

Thanks for the info

Jon

Yes that is the knocking you are getting.
Have a look at the Ebay item i put the number in my last post.
Good price and good quality in my opinion.(might as well do both)

From experience i would replace the lot. The ball joint that is bolted into the hub/ thrust arm you will not get out and will have to remove the hub. Just sayin..

I'm in the middle of a refresh at the moment so I found these on eBay and they are being fitted next week. Good price I thought.
