ABS Module

Post by henrym3 » Thu Feb 23, 2017 7:21 pm

As you know I had put my module in for repair, now fitted and all previous problems gone BUT I now have the problem where, when braking, light or heavy the front right wheel pulses as though the ABS is operating. There are no fault codes. Anyone got any thoughts?

start with basics .... is the disc warped ? is the caliper seizing ?
then check the abs sensor
then unfortunately start looking at the abs module again  >:( >:(

Discs all right, pads good, calliper definitely not seized, spoke to man that fixed module and he suggested unplugging module and using some contact cleaner on pins and said he was confident it wasn't the module. There again he would say that. Such a PITA even unplugging the module but will have to be done. If it was sensor I'm sure the diagnostics would have picked that up. Will view the live data as well. This was the weekend for servicing the Golf. Damm.

How do you know the discs are alright? A warped disc isnt an easy diagnosis

I have absolutely no steering vibration or any physical indication whilst braking from high or low speed that there is a disc problem. On  that basis I wouldn't dig out a dial gauge to confirm. Added to that there was no problem in that area before the ABS module was removed.

That would indicate that you have answered your own question. It's the ABS. It's either faulty or damaged when fitting (Not sure that is possible)

In a fit of "we'll see who's right" I got my selection of hammers and the odd spanner and removed the ABS module electrical connection, sprayed some WD40 put it on and off a few times, gave it a stern look and reassembled. Test drive. Problem solved. I assume Smee that I will now receive a smug "I told you so"

I'll never issue a "told you so" statement. Well not very often. However I will happily be the recipient of a "Smee was right, ....again. Smee is special" statement.
