Hello and a cry for advice please!

Post by jeepstertim » Mon Feb 06, 2017 8:03 pm

Today I have done the unthinkable and paid a deposit on an X5, that's not the unthinkable, it's the fact I'm getting rid of my Jeep Wrangler JK to fund it (a car I thought I'd have for life).

The X5 is a 2009, 3.0sd with 33,000 miles on it and one owner.  It has everything I'm after by way of extras (roof, 7 seats, HUD, rear ent etc, the lot).  It drove well on the test (upto 60), accelerated well and the engine sounded quiet and didn't rattle with no smoke on start up.

So having put a deposit down, is there anything I should be checking when I collect it?  The power tailgate needs fixing and the reverse camera didn't seem to come on (I got the picture of the car with the proximity bars).  Oil filler was clean.  The ride I found a bit jittery over the rubbish roads.

I'm wary of low mileage cars as they have often done lots of short journeys and that is not good for engine, oil or DPFs but this is 'mint'.  Only 3 services over its 8 year life (dealer) which again seems very low so will be one of the first things I do.

I would really welcome your thoughts on this as I am new to BMWs less a 525d some time ago.

That's no mileage at all, but yeah, with 1/2 tank diesel  give it a long run and check all is well. If it needs to regen then it will.
I was cursing my phone when work asked me to visit Southampton at 5am, but it mean't the car sat on M4,M25,M3 & M27 for long periods doing 70mph

Thank you for the response, it will get pressed into a 160 mile a day commute immediately so it will get the chance to regen regularly.

I have seen lots about swirl flaps, are they deemed reliable from any particular model on?

Well, it's parked outside and I have to say I'm very happy.  The car runs well and has been pressed into the commute already and seems to have the thumbs up from the family.

The only blight is that the passenger side tyres are miss-matched Chinese rubbish while the drivers side are immaculate *'d Bridgestones.  From the fact the previous owner seems to have been quite fastidious and I have the bill for 4 bridgestones, I'm guessing the dealer changed them for some reason.

31mpg so far.........

Hi there, and welcome, re the tyres:
A visit to the seller and armed with the receipt for the tyres, ask what is going on? As mismatched tyres on an X5 is a real no no.
You will love the car, as you can see i've got a 2002 4.4 and had the car for 11 years cannot see me changing the car done a lot of playing with it.

Hello and :hi:

You need to get those tyres sorted out pronto or you may be looking at transmission failure, and a significant bill!

The X5 is not a hardy as the Wrangler and sometimes has to be regarded as a bit of a 'Diva' car!
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
