I have a 2004 X3 and recently the rear wash wipe is not working properly. The wiper moves, but pressing the wash/water stalk I can hear the water pump from the front of the engine supposedly coming from the wash reservoir, but no water comes out at the rear. The front wash works fine no issues.
There's no dampness in the footwells at all.
Any ideas on where to look to resolve this issue?

E83 Rear Washer
Re: E83 Rear Washer
Hi
You could check the washer jet nozzle as sometimes get bits stuck in there, uses a needle or small pin to dislodge.
If that doesn't solve it then if you disconnect the pipe from the arm and point it out of the car and ask someone to press the washer jet, if it work then the arm/ jet is still blocked, if it doesn't work spurt water it could be the pump is gunged up, if there is no sound of the pump running check the fuses.
So if you do a search on hear about cleaning the washer bottles out as a few have had probs with them.

Is the water leaking out anywhere? on mine the tube pops off underneath the boot trip leaking water all over the boot. Fixed by cable tie-ing the tube onto the connector to stop it popping off. HTH.

Re: E83 Rear Washer
When I press the rear washer stalk to release the water to the tailgate, I hear the pump from the water reservoir but not water comes out, no leaks at all either.
I will take the needle and check the nozzle to see if that clears it, otherwise I will go to the front and swap the two pumps around so that the pump that was used for the front wash should now work for the rear wash (if it's a pump issue). Other than that not sure what else to try.
But let me try the above first before I come back on here for further assistance.
Thanks both.

Could be a stuck non-return valve or blocked pump filter.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Re: E83 Rear Washer
I have now just noticed that definitely a leak somewhere internally as the drivers side carpet/mats are soaked. As soon as I fill the water reservoir, press the wash stalk, the water eventually escapes.
So, where would I begin to look at this issue from?

Re: E83 Rear Washer
On my last X3 I had to remove the drivers seat and lift carpet to reconnect hose. If doing this try securing it with a jubilee clip or similar.
It usually happens when rear wash is used when frozen, the pressure causes the pipe to get disconnected.

Thanks jagr - is there a DIY page somewhere that I can follow for this fix? I would need to check the rear passengers carpet floor also.
