No locking rear wheel nuts?

Post by knackeredoldman » Fri Feb 03, 2017 6:37 pm

Hi,

Wonder if you guys can help...

I'm looking to pick up a 35d MSport and the one I'm looking at has no rear locking wheel nuts.

I had an RAC check done and the vendor apparently said that they weren't available for this model due to spacers (or something like that - second hand info).

Does this make sense?

Thanks.

Some spacer kits may useextended nuts to reach the original studs so the original nuts wouldn't fit.
There are only a few different perms of OEN locking nuts.
I'd take off the spacers and revert back to standard, you will need a BMW dealer to see what version you have and supply replacement nuts
Insurance companies class spacers as a mod and may not insure you, or wriggle out of a claim if not declared

BMW wouldn't put spacers on all I'd guess they've been added.  Take them off and go back to standard  :)

Hi

Does it have them locking bolts on the front? if so are they in the boot and taken off due to these spacer?  In which case, as the other have said, take the spacers off an re-install the missing locking bolts.

When I had the E53 with aftermarket AC Schnitzer wheels they needed 20mm spacers, but the original locking wheel bolts just bolted into the spacers without any problem.

The standard E70 wheels on an the car would already be a staggered set up with wider rear wheels than the front whether 19" or 20" sized wheels.

A new set of wheel bolts is approx £50 from BMW.

I think the rule of thumb is that you need at least 4 turns of a wheel bolt to be safe.
Are the wheels OEM or after market?
If they're aftermarket and need the spacers to sort the offset then you can buy longer locking wheel nuts. The problem you'll have is needing 2 keys, one for the front and one for the rear.

Thanks. Due to a few amber warning lights with this one, I went with a different car so no worries (for now). :)
