Car insurance and shopping around

Post by graemeX5 » Sat Feb 04, 2017 3:27 pm

I had the insurance renewal on the two cars come through, and I've had a multi car policy for 3 years with 3 various cars on it until this last year when I reduced to it to 2 cars, the X5M and Abarth 595.

Well last year when I swopped the old X5 and the 135i convertible for the X5 I had to pay another £500 odd on the policy to change.

Well this year the renewal came through and the price was £1360 (£1042 for the X5 and £318 for the Abarth) which I thought was a bit excessive,  :o

So I started the process of shopping around for better deals. Out come the comparison sites, there were various prices and but some of the excesses were £700 but their were a lot better prices.

The X5 has come in with the same limited mileage (which is just the mileage I do each year in it) and business use to meetings was £509 and the Abarth comes in at £231 with business use and both with the New insurer, but not on a multi car policy.

I did go back to the original company and the could drop price on the Abarth £50 and also the X5 £50 but it was no where near it, so I have waive goodbye to them.

So Total cost £740 and so massive saving £620 just for a couple of hours shopping around, and that just  about pays for the road tax on both cars, a result :drive:.  :)
Now: E70 X5 in Blue, 3 Minis Cooper S R53, JCW R56 & Cooper S Roadster R59 :drive:

Prev: Abarth 595C & 500C, E53 X5 4.4i, E88 135i M Sport, Audi TT Mk1 V6, 3 Smarts, 8 Vauxhalls, 4 Fords, 2 Triumphs, 1 Mini & Bikes

Yup, that's the M.O. most people don't shop around and with auto-renew they lose out massively.

Well done.
