Extended Interior Light Package

Post by concept » Thu Jan 19, 2017 5:30 pm

Just collected my 2013 X5, advert stated it has extended Interior Light Package, can anyone tell me what this is?

I was expecting ambient lighting, but can't see any or find any in the menu?

Is the footwell meant to stay illuminated while driving? My golf does, and my many previous Audis.

Depends upon how bright you set it.

Hmm. Nothing there, so I need to find out from a brochure or something, exactly what this is.

AFAIK the extended interior light package was part of the lights package, and it came with orange LED's (mostly visible at night) in the interior door handles and in each door bin, as well as lights illuminating the transmission tunnel. I think it was standard too. The lights package was the white lights under the exterior door handles.

It has white leds under the external handles and red led over the transmission tunnel, but that's it.

Dealer advert stated extended interior light package, which I need clarification on what it is, but can't find any mention of it in brochures.

I had the same words in advert though the lights were not to be, I had the full ambient light package on the previous car so the X5 is looking very dark in comparison.
I looked at various after market packages though they look too chav! I'll continue my search for a retrofit OEM package though believe what I have is all that's available  :(
LED's in the roof that shine on the tunnel front & back & door handle lights, can't see me changing door trims though may look at installing lights above the door bins... by the time I get round to doing I'll have gotten over the desire!

What's the spec on the new car ? Lots of toys ?

That sounds like my car, i believe it's an ambient lighting, but it's not. The interior is very dark at night, and would be great to have some mood/ambient lighting installed, but like you, I will probably not bother in the end, just something I noticed in the first few days of driving it.

Nice spec yeah, comfort entry, comfort seats, heated front and rear seats, pro Nav, hi-fi, heated wheel, 20s, 3rd row, head up display, and more.

Would say I love it, but it's been back at the dealer best part of a week, for a few wee niggles.

Update to retract my statement after washing car and finding the "ambient" lighting today
On top of the door pockets, there is a LED strip aka the ambient lighting, you ha be to really look for it and it helps to have the side lights on, very thin strip that emits very poor lighting, whereas the GT gets very bright ambient lighting the X5 gets relatively poor, can only assume it's different technology.....

Mine doesn't have any ambient light setting on the menu, so I am guessing the extended interior light package is just a bit of a nothing, probably footwell lights for when the doors are opened.

Gutted, I love a bit of ambient lighting :)

Concept, do a spec check and see if it has the S563 Lights Package option. I think this is the code and it should come with ambient lighting in the front and back door bins, behind each interior door handle and two LED's above the transmission tunnel. Check at night too. It is a nice option, and if you don't have it a retrofit wouldn't be a bad idea. Does give the 'ambience' suggested :)
