Has anybody reto fitted the HUD on the X5 "E70"
The reason i ask is my car has got it fitted , and im looking at replacing the car with a newer version,, but as most of the later cars dont come with the HUD option, how easy is it to swap mine to the newer car.??
Can it be as simple as removing the HUD module in the dash and swapping it into the "newer" car.
I use my HUD a lot and would miss it ....
Cheers Dave.

Re: Retro fit the Heads up display.??
You will need the right video drive from the CIC system too. The HUD is just a display and will not understand the graphic data from a standard CIC iDrive unless the 'newer' car uses the same colour system.
The windscreen is also special on HUD equipped cars and has a thicker bottom section to make the reflections from both layers of the laminated screen coincide otherwise you get two reflections.
Then it needs calibrating to the car.
At a guess you might need to move the CIC across in case the 'newer' one does not have the right licence key (FSC Code) enabled that supports the functionality.
It will be doable but could be complicated to get it all correctly running again. BMW now do a HUD kit that seems to connect into the OBD2 port (I think) and repeats on a display unit above the dash. No idea if it fits your model or how costly it might be.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

How much is the hud option?
I've got it on mine, just a lucky pick on the used car front
Something I would like in the future so would encourage those to upgrade at factory new list

It's about a grand.
I have it having spec'd it on my new F15, I had it on my last BMW and think it's a brilliant and will always now either spec or look for it.
