Can anyone recommend a cheap one that is able to reset codes once I’ve noted and rectified the problem?
Also, I don’t mind spending a bit more for a device that would work on several different makes and models. Are they universal, or do I need a different unit or BMW, VAG, etc?

I have been looking on the Carly site, be careful as it states that the Bluetooth version doesn't support E53

thats why i didnt go for carly ... i have an autel motpro that i use for other jobs as well as the bmw and an old xp laptop with the bmw software on it for more detailed stuff
i'd love to get hold of a tablet based diagnostic but i think i'd be divorced if the Mrs found out (and her solicitor would make sure she kept the tablet)

How cheap is cheap? Cable-shak.co.uk sell the right kit and it comes with all the software you could need.
