arch flares

Post by themoog » Tue Dec 13, 2016 12:29 pm

When did the E53 become the next model up? I noticed 4.4 at a car dealer by me today on an 06 plate and upon closer inspection it looked like the plastic wheel arch extensions were two separate pieces- i.e. The flared bit was on top of the original non flared piece. Is that how they are from the factory or is it likely to have been an aftermarket kit? It didn't look glued on or anything out of the ordinary.
On a side note it was priced at 12995.. Surely that's a bit lumpy?

I believe the arch extensions arrived in 2002 with the 4.6is and then 4.8is and they are fitted with clips, glue might have been better as I have changed all my clips due to them coming loose and leaving gaps. I think you can buy the arch kit from BMW which includes the arch and extension (at a suitable price of course) I have seen them come up now and then on that well known auction site.

That is a seriously ambitious price for a 10 year old X5 even low mileage and mint with the arch kit !! Or maybe the dealer has his Christmas Skiing booked !!
4.6is X5 Estoril Blue (current)
4.4 X5 Sport Topaz Blue LPG (now gone squashed by a tree)
Subaru Outback 3.0 Rn Star Silver (current)
AMG 6.3 CLS Obsidian Black (sold)
