Driving mode...

Still adjusting my driving style to suit the X, and came across the config settings for the drive train and chassis this morning.

Would I be right in thinking if I set sports mode to be chassis only, so that I have a stiffer suspension as my normal drive & then to engage the sports drivetrain I knock the gearstick to the left? Is there any pitfalls to this setup?

What is your fave mode / setup??

Well, I must admit I've spent most of my time in Eco-Pro in some weird (pointless I know) quest to see what MPG I can get.  I also find the response a bit smoother when pulling off. 

Since I spend most of the time in Eco-Pro and since it has been pretty cold recently I was thinking to myself that my heated seats weren't as good as I remember and thought I might have some sort of fault.  Then I found out that there was a config setting that sets the heating system to a more economic mode.  I just didn't realise it affected the heated seats!  Lesson learned.

I appreciate that! Do the older models not have similar modes? i meant it as an open to all X drivers kind'a question [emoji16]

Funnily enough I've been trying to better my mpg this week! I've found the drive to be smoother just setting the cruise and using the thumb up/down to adjust speed (and that's suburban driving!)
Ah, so eco-pro adjusts the seat heat, I'd have not thought of that!! Can that setting be adjusted whilst still using eco mode or did you have to revert back to comfort for heat?!

No they don't generally.  Some models came with adaptive suspension or adjustable air suspension but not the capabilities of the latest cars from various manufacturers.  Gearboxes were Normal, Manual or Sport.

My X6 is fixed suspension but Sport/Steptronic and Normal gearbox, but my Škoda Superb 3 has all the toys.  It stays in Sport Suspension and Steering modes, Sport radar cruise control throttle response and Normal gearbox mode.  If that helps at all

My X3 has the same setup as your X5.
Eco pro mode - the throttle response is slow to react and is excellent for city/dual  carriageway relaxed driving. Heating and air con recirculation is on a low power mode.
Comfort mode is the default settings when car is first turned on.
Sports mode- tightens up the suspension slightly and throttle response is heightened. Revs also increase. Gears are held longer. Flick the gear lever to the left or use paddle shifters and your into hooligan mode.
I have found eco pro to be good most of the time, but not great when a gap appears in another lane and you want to move over quickly. Comfort is fine for this.
In terms of trying to achieve the best mpg for your vehicle, it is more about whats happening ahead of you and varying your speed to reduce wasteful braking.  Keeping a bigger gap between you and the vehicle in front helps greatly.

Hi I must admit I have mine configured to chassis only and I believe it does what says on the tin stiffens the suspension and steering response weightens as well
I use this when towing the caravan in very windy conditions and it works atreat it also helps when your pottering through road works as the steering is better weighted and the car less prone to wonder

I've set mine to up the ante on chassis and throttle but not the steering as I find it gets a little too heavy.

I normally use comfort mode for day to day driving but shift the gear selector to sport for overtaking or on long downhill gradients (which gives better engine braking).

I use Eco Pro in conjunction with the speed limiter in the speed limited areas on motorways and am quite impressed at the extra mpg.

I tried Sport when I was in some twisty lanes and needed a quicker throttle response and the result was impressive but I ended up using the paddles to change up at around 3,000 rpm due to the nature of the on/off throttle.

Yeah, I didn't think of it either and was close to complaining about it!

I found I couldn't just disable more economic seat heating as a stand alone parameter but disabling the eco-pro climate setting does the trick.

I also like the 'coasting' in Eco-pro too.  I'm not sure if you get that in other modes.

I spend most of my time in "comfort" and change to "sport" when I'm at the lights next to another car and wanting to change lanes when I pull away .

If there was an option to choose what config you start in by default I would set it to "sport" all the time, but because it always defaults to "comfort" its a pain to change it every time. For me, "eco-pro" did nothing for fuel economy unless I actually started to drive differently.... apart from the car telling me to take my foot off the accelerator!
