Dash light problems

Post by nickid » Sat Jan 21, 2017 9:13 pm

Problems started with my indicators not flashing on dash, but were still blinking outside.
Now main beam light, and fog lights on dash are not coming on, but lights outside are working.
Can anyone help with this problem.

Sounds like a problem with the circuit boards in the binnacle, the unit is fairly easy to remove, you have to adjust the steering wheel as far down as posiible and as far away from the clocks as possible too.
There are two screws, could be torq or possidrive, can't remember, that hold the top of the binnacle in, just above the Perspex / glass.
Once the screws are out you tilt the top of the binnacle down and it comes away in one, it's just possible to squeeze it past the steering wheel to gain access to the plugs behind, they have a plastic locking mechanism you need to work to allow the plugs to come away.
Once out check the bulbs which are accessible at the rear, they are baynot fitted into the board.
UNFORTUNATELY YOU CANNOT JUST FIT A BINNACLE FROM A DIFFERENT X5 as the mileage is stored in two different modules, and will activate a tamper dot in the odometer display if you do.
There are places on the net that repair units though, firstly check the bulbs.

It could be a common 'ground' circuit for the LEDs (no bulbs from memory) so you could lose a group whilst leaving the others functional.

Ahhh I think your right, I think the replaceable bulbs are for illumination of the dials.
