X3 E83 Xenons / Angel Eyes ?

Post by jagr » Thu Jan 19, 2017 8:40 pm

Hi All,

Hoping someone can help with my retrofit, I have hit a brick wall with my angel eye / xenon headlight swap.

I have contacted dealers all over the world now and keeping get told the wiring loom is unavailable so am considering trying to make my own.

Now I am looking for someone who already has the lights and is will to take a few photos so I can compare.

I really need photos of:

Headlight plug connected and disconnected showing wires from the back and pins in the plug.
Angel connection to loom.

Anyone?

These are the lights I am trying to fit:

I have an E53 2002,  just split my lights and changed the cfl's to led rings, and the main beam to from 35w to 55w xenons , all I did was to use the side light lead/connector and make a new connection to the leds.
The xenons, I just put the new 55w ballast/ and 55w bulb  into the Headlight circuit.
Have a look on the ''Pelican parts '' site on google, loads of how to's , and the E46 is similar to the E53.
Also youtube it.

As Greydog is a similar age to me, it is good advice to get the younger members of the family to make themselves useful, under supervision!!

This info should apply to the X3.

No use asking me for photos, never can get my head around the system for posting photos.

[quote] did your original set up have two separate bulbs, one high beam, one dipped in either lamp unit?
I guess the new lights will be Bi Xenon, using one bulb and a flap , how do you get around the bulb check, as I guess the feed to work the flap will have to come from the dipped beam original feed, maybe a latching relay may be required. Good luck

I think you will have to change FA vehicle order to get working. What about levelling sensors?

I have just tried to modify the FA /VO but my NCSexpert has thrown up an error code so am going to reinstall it and try again tomorrow.
I have been told to add $522 to it.

The automatic levelling all works when the lights come on. I can then use the adjuster in the car.
Once all working will pop down my MOT tester for him to double check for me.

No. Auto leveling. Sensors on front and back axle. Retroffited? By law on xenons you need selflevelling. Winkfp to change FA as far as i remember, not ncs.

Cheers

All wiring was good it was the coding.

I managed to add $522 to the ECU and they now work.

Next job is to sort out the levelling now before MOT in April.

I take it I need a unit on the front and back axle?
Do they need to be connected to lights of LCM etc?

Sure I read somewhere that you could use the thumb wheel to adjust the height beam.
There's that many cars out there that have HIDS/ Aftermarket Xenon that fly through the Mot, I wouldn't worry.
