I'll reiterate what I said. Do a search of the form. Brand is one thing, sizes is another. Search the posts so you can learn about diff wind up ......

Re: Burning Rubber!
I'll have a search thanks, will only be replacing with like for like sizes though..
Re: Burning Rubber!
You're missing the point. Like for like may, or may not be the best option as you may not be running the optimum set up in the first place. And it doesnt do any harm to do a search and read up and learn a little. Im perhaps in the minority but I read pretty much every post on here whether it affects me or not. Its amazing how much you learn, how much you thought you knew but didnt, how not every response isnt actually correct, and how much you remember frpm reading all those posts when you end up having a problem of your own.

Re: Burning Rubber!
Just reading reviews on tyres, need to decide on either the Dunlop SP Quattromax or Michelin Latitude 3's. Deffo not Kuhmo and probably not the bridgestones that I currently have.
Anyone running on these?

Smeeagain, I've read quite a bit about diff wind up but am not aware of any problems in that regard on pre facelift X5 or any need to pay any regard to the BMW * rating for tyres on these models.

Well that's because 'reviews' are simply one person's opinion on what they perceived was happenning. There ate no controls on a review and a huge amount of variables. What one revier thinks is good performance, another will think is sub standard. It's very much down to what you're prepared to pay and what type of performance you need from a tyre. I know a guy who bases his tyre purchases on tread patterns that he likes!

I wouldnt necessarily disagree IF you stick to the OE set up, but folk on here have tried, or discovered they have, weird tyre sizes mixed across front/back. If you do something particularly odd it will cause, or contribute to, problems. My point was to encourage the OP to read up on the problem rather than take your word or my word that you can ignore star ratings. There are folk on here who would say you should not ignore the star rating so he has to read up and take his own decisions.

Re: Burning Rubber!
don't worry, the last set of tyres were star rated and after the amount of money I have spent on her in the last two years I am not going to invite a diff failure too by whacking on crap rubber
I realise opinions are like arses, everyone has one!

Not changing the sizes bud, just the make of tyre. Off to chat with the tyre guy and see what he recommends after work

Re: Burning Rubber!
The only thing i will pitch in on this thread is stick to the same brand of tyres when shoeing an X Drive bimmer. The transfer box and your wallet will thank me later.

I was going for continentals but as I have run out of body parts to sell after the gearbox woes, I stuck another set of Bridgestones on, £670 fitted.
