is getting a remap bad for your car
is getting a remap bad for your car
hi
being new to all this i am a little bit apprehensive about having a remap to my 04 3.o ds is there any risks that i should know about ie losing alarm codes, turbo damage and all the other things you hear about also is a remap for the long term ie the length of the cars life

Re: is getting a remap bad for your car
You'll get a bit more wear on the turbos, gearbox and so on with the extra power/torque, it depends on your driving style/how long you intend to keep the car, opinion varies dramatically though, never heard of any settings going a miss after a remap though.
I've had it done on a few cars and had no trouble at all, friends the same but some people seem to struggle.

Re: is getting a remap bad for your car
It all depends on who, how, what software used to change the maps and knowlege on the maps that are adjusted, most people you will go to don't write the tuned files them self so they dont know what they are putting on your car or how the maps have been adjusted
If the remap is made from your original file and keep within the safe limits of the engine and running gears limits then there will be no problem
If the person who makes the tuned file the wrong way for example adding a lot more boost then needed and not adding the right amount of extra fuel the this can cause a weak air fuel ratio and to much load on the turbo which can cause wear and damage Or uses a tuned file from a different car which can cause other problems as well

is getting a remap bad for your car
Have been thinking about a remap for a while now, couple of questions
Can BMW or insurance company detect the remap or when the remap was done?
How much does the insurance premium increase by usually?

no matter what any other person or tuner says
if i can tell if a car is remapped then so can any one else if they have the know how and equipment
as for when it was done then no you can't
dealers don't look to check if you ecu has been remapped they just flash over if they think the ecu has a problem with it
there is a few things that i can do to stop others checking and that is to lock the ecu down so that im the only one that can flash, read, write or up date the ecu but this does take some time
you would have to ask your insurance for a price

Re: is getting a remap bad for your car
Anyone had an X5 re-mapped from the as-supplied management prog. - who can say unequivically that both performance and economy have been significantly improved ? - I'm presently open-minded but would be tempted in response to enough positive reports
Only had my X5 for 10 days but getting ~ 35mpg running about and just under 40mpg on long m/way runs - quite nippy too - not unhappy with these figures (maybe already been re-mapped !)

Re: is getting a remap bad for your car
My 3.0D was remapped by Jason 3 years ago.
The performance was much improved, MPG improved a little.
Jason can write you a map to suit your individual requirements, some people want maximum power and are not fussed with MPG. Some just want more MPG.

Re: is getting a remap bad for your car
