Have you flushed?
Have you flushed?
I have an E53 2004 3.0 D Sport. Gets all the correct servicing, , oil changes etc. im thinking of doing an engine flush at the next oil change as the car is very high mileage - well over 100k.
Im fully aware of the pros and cons so not looking for any advice in that respect.
My question is - have you done a flush, what mileage had the vehicle covered, what product did you use and did you see any benefits or did you experience any resultant problems?
Thanks
Smee

Re: Have you flushed?
I have recently got my x5 3.0d 2002 and in the process of doing the same.
What i do is i buy 2 lot's of oil and filters one oil will be up to spec but lo priced the second will be good oil.
I changed the oil on Monday and put the lo priced oil in with a new filter.
When i have done around 200 miles i will change it again as by that time it should have given it a good flush well i think it has.
Always do this when i get a fresh car.

Re: Have you flushed?
Thanks. Yes I had considered that option. Anyone used a specific flushing product?
Re: Have you flushed?
Don't take offence at my comment, but is flushing not a subconscious fix for a vehicle that has spent a lot of it's life being serviced by a dealer who has oil change intervals normally twice the amount of a DIY'er. We all bump our gums about how important oil changes are but the manufacturer or dealer don't seem to agree. Could it possibly be that as long as it get's to outside warranty they don't care??
Don't get me wrong, I did the flush thing same as Allen, my paperwork suggested for the first 100k oil changes averaged between 12 and 18k. Now I do 7.5k

Re: Have you flushed?
My 2p's worth.
Had an x3 2.0d msport 07 plate with 87000mls. Used a very well known diesel specialist for a service and rocker gasket renewed. Known to me they used a flushing agent whilst changing the oil and the outcome was a very noisy tappet to the point where rather than spend approx £600 having them all replaced, I sold the car! They told me it can be an outside side effect and i did know they would be doing a flush.....just never realised it would cause me so much grief at the time. On the upside, I've now got an e70 4.0d ...much better.

Re: Have you flushed?
Like i said i always do this when i get a fresh car and then every 5k after with a good oil and filter.
Re: Have you flushed?
Thanks for the replies. As it happens the green servicing lights on my car go out every 5k so its 25k between services/oil changes.
I dont see it as any type of quick fix at all and am erring on the side of "if it aint broke don't fix it"

Re: Have you flushed?
I flushed the engine oil on my 2004 3.0d at 117k. At 120k the big end bearings died and that was game over and a full engine rebuild. I put the correct grade and good quality oil in at the time of the change and have no way of proving the flush caused the failure but I can safely say I will never use a oil flush again
HID Xenons, White Angel Eyes, LED No Plate Lamps, LED Puddle Lamps. Oh and remap soon >:D
Re: Have you flushed?
The downside of posting over the christmas holidays is that fewer folk respond (no offence to those who did), so I thought I'd bump this back up.
