X5 Winter tyres on 19 staggered wheels

Post by Digidick » Mon Dec 12, 2016 6:08 pm

Came with my recently purchased E53 X5 and I don't feel I'll have any need for them.

All in good condition and fitted with good Vredestein tyres.

Collection from Derby/Nottingham or could meet up if not too far.

£380 ono

I bought a set of Vred wintrac extremes when I had the X, couldn't fault them , drove through 12" snow drifts here oooup Norf ,  didn't  even put the traction control light on. I ran them all year round the second year, as they were a. better/ quieter ride than the Demaris summer tyres. I wish these were available when I was looking, I paid north of £700 just for these same tyres for mine, then had a £50 swap over charge from my tyre fitter.

I also have these same wheels on the car with summer tyres.

If needed in sunny Derby I'll just get some winter tyres, I have this guy as a mate....

They are priced about right but you might get a bit more on ebay.

Brilliant tyres, used them for 7 years now on my old X - they perform brilliantly in cold weather.  I don't live far from Debry and I use winters every year, we definitely have the cold and ice at times as well as black ice and slipperly road conditions to use them.

Depends on the tread left as winters need to be changed at about 3-4mm really, but Vreds in 18" size (255/55R18) cost about £100 each new and a decent set of 18"alloys in good conditIon about £200-250.  I sold my old 17" set from when I had a 3.0i for £400 as I needed 18" for the 4.8.

I also bought a set of E70 18" winters with almost new runflat Dunlops a few months ago for £400 - prices vary vastly, I would say yours are about right for a quick sale.

Personally, I'd stick them on the car and get use out of them this Winter - save your summer tyres. You also never know when you will need them, until it is too late one morning and you wake up with everywhere frozen! They are also great for water dispersion, so in heavy rain you'll be more confident.

Thinking you'll be fine because you have the 4x4 comfort is not the right mindset... 4x4 helps you to move... not to stop. Winter tyres perform completely different when you are stopping on ice/snow and this is where it matters.

If you still aren't impressed after winter, sell them then... you'll get similar money anyway and will have saved 3-4 months on your summer tyres.

I'm going to get them out the garage this afternoon and take better pics and measure the treads, they won't sell without a bit more detail.

This was just a quick advert really to gauge interest.

I'll also have a think about actually using them as I've had some in the past for my old E61 530d Sport but the past couple of years have seen bugger all snow and ice.

I'd say yes they will but I'm honestly not sure without a search, I'm new to this X5 game. I'm more of a 5 Series expert.

Quick update.

Measured them this morning.

255 fronts with just under 4mm at worst on the outer edges and around 5mm in the middle

285 rear with 5mm at the edges and around 6mm in the middle.

Pics later.
