BMW auc or private buy with warranty.............
Re: BMW auc or private buy with warranty.............
P.S. Like Condor, I too have kept going with the BMW Warranty. With the work I have had done over the years, I think I have saved thousands by having it.

How much better off are you going to be by buying your own house? Sounds like a lot if you are going to get after an E70 once you have bought your property...
Personally, I would do what I can to keep the E53 - you know the car etc. and when the money rolls in after buying your new home, pay off the loan or CC you used as deposit instead of selling the E53.
Also, what are you going to do for transport if you do sell your car? Surely there will be a period where you will be without while you pay for your house and then save up for an E70.

yeah i will be better off once im in my own house as my loan finishes in 6 months and the gym equipment im paying for also finishes this month so straight away thats an extra £200 per month and im hoping to have a mortgage for around £600 a month which is £125 less than what im paying now.
i have 3 cars, my x5,the mrs mazda 2 and a old vectra estate v-reg thing that just seems to run and run and run, ive had it 3 years and its only cost me £45 on a anti-roll bar.it passes its mot every time and has a genuine 63k on the clock so im keeping that as it costs nothing really to keep it on the road.
ideally we need £15k for a deposit and i really dont wanna borrow for the deposit as it will eat into my available credit.
another thing is that i want an x5 with a warranty as we all know that big bills crop up. my x5 shows no signs of being a money-pit but im under no illusion that its perfect-its a near 13 year old truck with 112k on it.............but i still love it

Ok - makes more sense. I would always advise putting your money in property over a car...
Personally if money was that tight however, i'd be looking at something other than an X5. I'd be uncomfortable spending practically all my free capital on a Car and living from paycheck to paycheck.
Keep running the Vectra as long as you can and build up a safety net / savings. Sounds boring and what your grandparents might say but its sensible... i'm not that old either (32).

Re: BMW auc or private buy with warranty.............
also the main reason for a 4x4 large car is due to my size, im 6ft 9 and 29 stone so if not an x5...........what are my options?
i test drove a shogun......couldnt get the door shut properly as my leg was in the way
jeep grand cherokee.....could barley get in it
range rover......plenty of room BUT stories of their reliability scared me off
dont really like anything else to be honest

Re: BMW auc or private buy with warranty.............
Agree with Turks, obviously its a personal thing depending on your circumstances, but there is a huge difference in price, relatively speaking between E53s and E70s, especially if ooking at the later facelift models - they are currently in the £26k+ range from dealers. Plus moving house and electoral role address changes, has a silly detrimental effect on ability to get credit of any kind till the dust settles and all the addresses have updated etc.
Seems a shame to get rid of your E53 - not as if its worth a small fortune. Personally, I would rather save the amount you think the E53 would be worth, put that in your house fund, and keep the E53. Get a nice E70 once you have settled into your new place and all the electoral role details have updated - while that is not updated, even car credit is a nightmare.
EDIT :just seen all the other posts as well, understand the dilemma. Unless you want to run the vectra of course and just get the best offer for the X to get the cash quicker than you can save it. Range Rovers are a nightmare when they go wrong -I had one for 10 years, main dealers are even worse than BMW. Perhaps try an older mdel Volvo XC90 -boring as hell, underpowered but generally reliable and very easy to find? I would avoid the VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and the Merc 4x4 models if repairs, reliability and costs are a big factor. Doesn't leave much choice really.

Re: BMW auc or private buy with warranty.............
Warranty is a pretty big bill in itself after 12 months with BMW... Over £100 a month. You need to factor that in as well really...
I think you are better keeping the X5 and saving what you can while your other Finance (loans and gym equipment) is cleared. That way, your credit rating will be better for getting a mortagage agreed in principle. Once you know what you can borrow, you know where you stand and how much you will need.
If you find the property that fits your requirements, and you are short on the deposit at that point, then and only then I would consider selling the X5.
