Re: BMW scanner 1.4
Thanks X5Sport - yes I've got one - I had clocked it earlier but didn't know what it was (obvious once it's pointed out!) - I presume as standard UK config, this fires up automatically on starting the engine if the outside temp is low/near freezing. ? The manual refers to the Telestart option - is fitting this a DIY option does anyone know?
Re: BMW scanner 1.4
yes, telestart is a retrofit option but costly i believe.
other options are to make your own remote control or add the aux heat function to the obc which gives you a timer to set the heater to start next morning.
there are other threads about this on this forum. have a good look around using the search option and see what you think.

Re: BMW scanner 1.4
Thanks fenj66 - are you saying that the necessary kit/software to control the aux heat function from the monitor is already present and just needs to be enabled via a scanner?
Re: BMW scanner 1.4
Hi - like fenj says the auxiliary heat can be enabled via a scanner . This gives you the option to turn on the Webasto via the OBC , manually or by a timer i think.
If you want to turn it on remotely ( while you sip your coffee in the morning ) you then need the Telestart unit ( Approx £150 I think ).
The third option is the DIY one . i have done it and it works fine . See the link below for an excellent writeup by monkeyfinger .

Thanks Marlin758 - investigating just now it looks as though the Webasto in my car does not work - the unit, valves and exhaust look brand new and there is no sooting inside the exhaust outlet - are these heaters totally (software) disabled for the UK market do you know?

Re: BMW scanner 1.4
If you connect a lead to the 12v starter point at one end, push a sewing needle carefully into the Green/White wire on Pin 1 of the webasto and touch the wire to the needle the Webasto should fire up and keep going for as long as you keep that connection in place. Putting 12v on Pin 1 will (should) switch the unit on, which is how the DIY version works.
In normal operation the Webasto only comes on below 5C, and the Auxiliary Heating mode requires a good battery and sufficient fuel.
The unit is normally enabled as a coolant heater in the UK by default. Full auxiliary heating was enabled if you paid for the Telestart option at new, or had it retrofitted.

Re: BMW scanner 1.4
Thanks X5Sport - I'll try the wire test tomorrow
Re: BMW scanner 1.4
Keep the 12 v on for a minute or two - when I checked mine I was convinced that the Webasto was faulty as it seemed to start up then shut down. It appears to go through a purge sequence first .
It sounds like a fan starts up , runs for a short while and then stops . Then after a short while it goes through its fireup sequence .

Careful with that one, IIRC that is the high beam. EU is the HID's.
Would like to have had DRL on the halo side markers but this is not possible.

Re: BMW scanner 1.4
I have taken the american lights back off as you say it was the high beam not the side lights. There was another but I never tried it. will see when I get a chance.

Re: BMW scanner 1.4
i bought one in december and added aux heat/tv in motion/flash indicators on alarm activation/changed parking sensors distance alerts.
however! i bought mine on ebay from a seller called amar_87 and after new year it stopped working. i have contacted the guy and sent it back for repair but to be honest, the communication from the guy is awful. i still havent had it back or heard anything.
seeing as how these scanners are getting more popular now, i wondered if anybody else has had issues with theirs or this seller?
Just read this - see my post on the other scanner thread = same seller !!
