Transmission failure due to tyres

Post by allforus » Sun Nov 27, 2016 5:25 pm

Hi I am confused how tyres can affect transmission failure

I have heard people say if you have the non bmw star tyre on then it will wreck the transmission or tyres more than a few MM different in depth will also distroy it

It's just the new X1 are basically front wheel drive 100 % of the time so the fronts on mine are down at minimum yet rears are 6mm

Any information will be appreciated

its all to do with the rolling radious of the tyre controlling 4x4 and gearbox i think, i had an issue on a range rover sport where the gearbox was would not change up gears, turned out it was tyre on the front been a different make, same size tyre as rest, different make and was slightly larger diameter so car thought it was cornering and wouldnt change up
