Come on guys finish the threads, I would hate to have given an answer and not know I was right. We all stab and guess at an answer on the end of a computer, it's nice to know that someone got it right even if it is mostly X5sport.

Well Henrym3 because you didn't ask on my original post I've only just picked up on this.
I replaced both front struts with secondhand front struts from a 4.4 x5 of ebay cost £70 took about 3 hours quite easy and the rear air springs I replaced with the coil spring kit of ebay for £200 took me about 5 hours.
I also purchased Bmw scanner software of ebay for £15, I used this to remove the error message 'suspension error' from the dash on start up, so for about £285 the cars all fixed and it seems to drive no different than before. I didn't opted for the coilovers my concern was replacing the rear spring and a shock with one coilover and all the weight of the car on just a coilover and whether that lower bolt would cope with the whole weight of the car.

Thanks for the reply, yes I should have asked on original post, its just it sounded more complicated, although I'm sure it wasn't as easy as you make it sound.
