I work with refrigeration a bit in my job as a Compressed Air service engineer. Most standard pressure switches are Normally closed circuit if the pressure is above their ( happy ) pressure. When the pressure drops bellow the happy pressure, so they go open circuit, usually resulting in a non working system.
You can usually bridge the switch to briefly try the system, not long enough to cause damage.
The correct way is to have your
Reassure gauges connected to see if the gas pressure is up to normal system pressure.
Some pressure switches are shraeder mounted so are fitted so can be changed without vacuuming out all the gas, some are brakes in.
You need gauges that are suitable for R 134A gas usually. If the pressure is ok, then try with the pressure switch bridged out to test.

Basically the same as those fitted to your tyres!!
Will seal until centre pin is depressed.
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

Actually...BMW got the fan to run..it was just the condenser at fault.  Got a new one installed by a main dealer and it's lovely now.

My understanding of the condenser is that it is just a radiator to cool the gas to a high pressure liquid for onward travel, the only thing that can go wrong is a stone puncture or leak by bad connection, which begs the question as to how it passed a system pressure test as mentioned earlier on? and how the a/c worked fine.  Anyone like to increase my knowledge?

Matches what I thought too.  It's just a rad with a drier unit built in.  It either works, or has a hole in it and doesn't.
