Poor gear change on occasion?

Post by john_o » Fri Sep 30, 2016 11:10 pm

X40d 2011 8 speed
The gear change seems to have degraded  when warm.
Not as smooth as when cold or from 3 months ago.
When selecting drive the pull on the transmission seems more clunky too.

The car seems to struggle on ocassion to find the right gear when slowing to a roundabout.

I have tried the holding down accel pedal for 30sec to reset gearbox adaptation but no real change.

Is this front diff related?
Can the boxes be a little clunky at times?

Its hard to describe but it all just feels a little too harsh compared to when we bought the car. So much so the wife even noticed!

Car is under warranty still so will mention in 2 months when it's in for service. But wanted a plan of action before then.
Our any immediate tricks to try

Thanks
John

Box should be a smooth as silk hot or cold so it sounds like a problem.  There have been a few failures since launch, but only a few, and all have had new boxes from BMW.
