Detailing report - Carbon Black M50d
Promised my detailer I'd share this with you guys - very happy with the result.

Last weekend we were tasked with this "little" gem for a previous client of ours, After a little waiting time from the factory the car was dropped off with our client ready to hit the roads!
Unfortunately as a few of the following photos will show the dealership prep work had been a little bit lax and some of the scratches/scuffs looked pretty severe certainly on such a noticeable colour such as carbon black.
None the less after a little time and effort the car left looking so much better as the complimentary swirling had disappeared and with a nice coating of C1 should see the car sealed and protected for the next year or so and certainly ready for the winter.
As per previous new car detailing the process was much the same:
1) Full decontamination before rinsing off
2) Snow foam applied left to dwell before Cleaning wheels with fallout remover.
3) Snow foam rinsed off and bodywork washed using trusty Zaino Z7.
4) Fully clayed to remove any surface contamination.
5) Snow foam applied and washed off once more.
6) Fully taped up then paint measurements taken throughout.
7) Machine polished with various Rupes pads/polishes to the desired correction level.
Once completed car fully washed once more before pat drying.
9) Gtechniq G1 & G2 applied to front glass and buffed off.
10) Swissvax paint cleaner applied.
11) Complete IPA wipe down to remove any oils and leave a smooth even finish.
12) Gtechniq C1 applied to complete vehicle then worked off immediately.
13) DODO Supernatural wheel sealant applied to all 4 wheels.
14) Finally, tyres dressed and any fiddly exterior jobs.
15) Interior fully hoovered, Gtechniq I1 fabric applied, L1 applied to leather and C6 too all dash areas.
16) Engine bay was looking a little dusty, so we gave a complimentary wipe down/Brush and Autofinesse Dressle.

Depends on what is required - from polishing out minor scuffs to a full colour correction... and of course the size of car!
Drop them a message - I'm sure Jim will give you a good and fair idea.

Re: Detailing report - Carbon Black M50d
A transformation - makes such a difference to get the paint corrected and sealed professionally. People too often make the mistake of believing that because a Car is brand new, that the paint is perfect.
Well worth the money.

Re: Detailing report - Carbon Black M50d
Absolutely right. My X6 was so bad it had to be completely repolished! BMWs much vaunted 'ostrich feather dusters' had done sod all at getting the crap off during painting. Looked much better after it was done
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Detailing report - Carbon Black M50d
Wow that made a difference. I guess with the extra panel area that an x5 has it has a bigger impact

The car looks superb after the detailing work. How is the bodywork holding up now the weather has deteriorated?

Just fine - washing the car is pretty quick and still no swirls!

Re: Detailing report - Carbon Black M50d
good effort maintaining it yourself, theres a lot of panel work on the x5 I've decided to go with space grey, despite detailing my cars myself in the past i struggle to find the time lately

There's a lot to be said for that - not sure I'll still love the black after 3-4 years.
Space grey was my preferred colour for a long time, really classy.

Had my E70 detailed and now wash it myself. Along with the local use Yaris it's taking over 4 hours. That doesn't include glass, wheels or interior yet! It is a bugger!

Re: Detailing report - Carbon Black M50d
Fantastic job (and lovely car :punk:).
I detailed my E53 and recently my E70, while I was happy with the results, what it did was to show up how crappy the BMW paint system is. I know they have to use water based paints these days, but do they have to provide so much orange peel?! :'(
