Bumping this so I can find it easier when I come to do my front sensor when the weather gets warmer
It's like an e53 right of passage....come the warm weather dozens of X5s will be shedding their front modesty coverage for PDC nip and tuck

Re: E53 FACELIFT BUMPER REMOVAL
Great post. I have to replace the left fender, so by chance can you tell if the bumper needs to come off to get to the front bolts for the fender. Would love not to have to take the bumper off if I don't have to. Appreciate any comments.
Thanks
Thanks

Hi and welcome........
You might find list of official instructions might help you in your quest?
You haven't said anything about which version/year you have, so I have taken the liberty of going with a 4.4 variant. It may not make a difference, but........

Just be careful with the plastic clips that sit between the bumper and wings where they meet at the wheel arch. With the cold weather the clips can be quite brittle.

IMO that is the easiest/hardest thing to undo. It's one of those things that's AHA thats how it works and given the right jiggling in the right direction and the right sliding prodding motion it falls apart
On the other hand its like the rear brake adjusts, you know they're there and prodding finds nowt yet so easy when the drum is off,
I swear the car was put together by masons with secret panel handshakes
I've got a new one (in the boot) to fix the one I broke the last time I went in to look at the PDC.
It's still in the boot.

Re: E53 FACELIFT BUMPER REMOVAL
I don't have the option of leaving it, but I might just leave the car in the garage and put a heater on to warm it all through
Going to be doing a bit of early/late driving and would rather all the lights worked reliably.

Re: E53 FACELIFT BUMPER REMOVAL
At the risk of sounding a bit like countdown, there are 2 from the front and 3 from the back.

Re: E53 FACELIFT BUMPER REMOVAL
Could anyone advise which type (straight/angled) are positioned where in the front bumper? I have 2 gone but not sure which type to buy!
