Heater blowing cold

Post by b20wht » Wed Nov 02, 2016 7:23 pm

So yesterday my heater had set its self to 32 degrees in the car (both sides) and I was boiling so turned it back down to 20 and all was good. Today its blowing cold air on all settings apart from if i push the windscreen defrost button then its lovely and warm. Cars running normal temp on the gauge and as I say is warm with the windscreen button pushed but otherwise cold!! Any ideas what could be wrong?

Sounds like it's the climate control unit to me . ( don't rush out and buy one on my guesswork )
If the fan is able to be regulated speedwisw manually, this sort of eliminates the FSR. The control unit opens and closes flaps and the opens and closes the water / matrix valves, so if hot water is being allowed into the matrix the valve must be opening, the flap to the windscreen is open.

I believe the climate control unit won't work on auto if the FSR is gone. Were you able to regulate your fan speed with the manual buttons on the climate control unit.?

Had a similar problem and it was the heater valve in the engine compartment. You can see the pipes and feel them. just change the temp setting then feel the pipes. the change from cold to hot obviously happens quickly, probably sticking, I got replacements from recycler, FAB I think and it sorted my problem.

Thanks for the response guys. Yes speed wise I can control it, it's just the temperature I can't, so from what Horizon has said it sounds like it could well be that! Anyway I can test it?

Nelo- did you have trouble with just temperature control or the motor speeds?

HenryM3- I will check these thanks

It would appear I had a bit of a 'special' moment regarding the above problem. Someone had moved the middle vent into the cold position without me knowing so I have moved it back to hot and all is now cured and I am once again toasty warm :-[ thanks guys
