2007 E70 Rear brake pad life

Post by Wipeout » Tue Oct 25, 2016 9:02 pm

Hi all,

When the rear pad reset is done on the CBS, what does it reset too?

I'm sure mine reset to 16000 miles but I'm not sure if that's correct, seems a bit low.

Cheers
Chris

Not sure why such a difference but my 2012 E70 is showing 41000 miles on iDrive for the next change for the rears..........16000 does seem a bit low.

Mine is  an August 2007 3.0d.  New front pads fitted 3 years ago, set with computer and jumped from 41k to 60k when the car was driven away.  Same thing happened 6 months ago when new rears were fitted.  Current readings are 36k for fronts and still 60k for rears.

Just replaced the rear pads on mine today (feb 2010) and after resetting the service mileage now shows 31k.

2011 x40d replaced rear pads today by dealer.  Indicator now shows 47000 miles remaining.  (From under 2000 when it went in)

Did you get a reply from bmw?
Do they measure the rear disc thickness too and that feeds into the calculation?

Just the Usual wishy washy answer from BM, they have yet to explain fully why the sold me an AUC with what now appears to be incorrectly set CBS, talks still ongoing......
The discs don't get factored in, from what I can figure out,  all that it's done on is the pad wear sensor and a mileage countdown basis.

Just had new fronts on mine - picked up by an indy specialist when he dismantled the brakes during the service on the car.  They'd done 60000. The status reading was 21000 left.  On the pad where there's the sensor there was loads of material left.  The other of the same front pair was worn down to the point it had to be replaced - and no sensor to measure it.  it was the same pattern on the other side- one with plenty of life left, the other well worn. The moral seems to be to get them checked visually at reasonably frequent and regular intervals.

...following on from the last post, interestingly I just checked the status monitor - it has jumped from 41000 when the front pads were installed a couple of weeks ago to 50000 miles left on them now!!!!

I would think so - done about 800 miles since fitted.  Interesting how the expected life increases!
