ABS trifecta, diagnostic report says instrument panel fault
ABS trifecta, diagnostic report says instrument panel fault
The abs lights were already on when i bought the car, assuming it would be just a wheel speed sensor or a module, i bought it anyway. Had it on a garages diagnostic machine and it said instrument panel/cluster fault . Does anyone have any idea what this means and how to fix it please ? The only other code that comes up is p1619 map cooling circuit (thermostat) which i'm assuming is nothing to do with the other problem.

Re: ABS trifecta, diagnostic report says instrument panel fault
If the code they give is a 'p' type then that is generic, not BMW specific. You need to get it on a BMW compatible diagnostic system to make sure that you aren't chasing a ghost! There may be nothing wrong with the cluster but that garage's diagnostic computer can't read it correctly so says there's a fault.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

The instrument cluster/ binnacle can be easily removed by 2 self tapping screws above the Perspex panel.
If you replace it with one from another X5 the mileage won't match the mileage stored in another module and the tell tale dot will appear in the odometer display.
There are companies on the net that specialise in binnacle/ cluster repairs.

Re: ABS trifecta, diagnostic report says instrument panel fault
Thanks for your replies guys, appreciated. I seem to be having one problem after another with this car, had some bushes replaced today and the mechanic (and i use the term lightly) said when he jacked the car up, the air suspension kept filling up ? I'm no mechanic, so what does this mean please ? He said the reason i was hearing a knock from the rear could have been to do with faulty air suspension as it wold have been bottoming out against the chasis.
Re: ABS trifecta, diagnostic report says instrument panel fault
If the suspension was jacked up to replace bushes then the key should have been removed, to stop the compressor repeatedly working. When the car is on the ground can you hear the compressor working repeatedly, if not then it's probably OK. If the car was so low at the back that it was bottoming out you really would have noticed it sitting nose up tail down. The knocking is probably your ARB link arms (hopefully cos cheap fix)or the subframe bushes.
