Any idea what this monstrosity is?

Post by Pete » Wed Oct 12, 2016 12:29 pm

I've recently bought a 4.8is and am getting it how I want it.  Please can anyone confirm what this bodge job is?  It is stuck right in the middle of the dash, right up to the window and has a black wire attached.  I am guessing that it is part of an additional alarm sensor or something.  It is approx 3.5cm x 2cm.Image

WTF!  Any name or model number on it?  Does the LED ever light up?

Hahaha! Somebody will be proud of it ! Luckily the glue is brittle si will clean off - I have no idea what it is. I thought maybe an ultrasonic sensor but possibly is a gps. No logo or tech info but I'll get a photo of the inside of it.

It doesn't light up or anything.

Whatever it is, the installer should be given a life ban from owning any BMWs!

Hi

Definitely not a BMW option I'm aware of.

I reckon it could have been an alarm as others have said or it could be a speed camera sensor or jammer of some sort.best to track the wire, but not great whatever it is /was  :))

Garage door/Gate opener ??

Can you imagine the hours of thought and planning that went into deciding eventually, that a BMW would the perfect thing to stick to his new sensor !!!!!!!

:))

I think I might know what it is. In the electronics section in the boot, there is a non-working dvd player or something that is as seemlessly installed - I think it could possibly be a remote control sensor for that.

I was also thinking along the lines of one of those old infrared controller units / extensions to enable a remote to be used for some other piece of hardware, like you say something in the boot.......
