What CIC head units fit E70?

Post by threeseashells » Mon Oct 10, 2016 8:24 pm

Hi,

I've recently bought an E70 (4.8i) 2008 and am looking to replce the dead CCC unit. It appears head units from different models may fit, widening the buying options. Is this the case?

I know the CID screen is different, but only in as far as the surround is unique to the E70 dashboard, but would be ok removing the 8.8" unit to fit in my existing plastic.

Can anyone advise please?

Thanks.

Will let the more technical advise

But my understanding its possible but it's not quite plug and play simple

Wires, looms different and require coding

You will also need to check whether the on board systems will talk to the CIC head.  BMW changed the on board system to require licence keys based on your VIN and only your VIN so you are very likely to need some serious coding work to get everything in a CIC to work with your current car.

Each 'option' needs its own key.

As said, not exactly plug and play.

Have a look at bmwcoders on line as that forum will probably tell you exactly what you need to change, and where, as well as how to code it all up.

Good luck  :D

I did this retrofit on my X5 E70 about a couple months ago. It cost me 900 for all the parts including all the plastic trim. The unit came already coded (I had to supply my VIN to the seller) and I fitted the whole thing myself in under 4 hours including being meticulous to not damage anything and also messing up with one connector that meant I had to take everything out and back in a couple times until I figured it out.

The whole install was plug and play for me (I am using an emulator on my setup and everything works as it should)

It is a massive upgrade compared to the CCC.

Thanks for all the info guys. I've been lurking for a while, as CCC to CIC was something I was going to do with my E90, but an addition to the family gave me the excuse to go for an E70.

I have software and cable to code and have done a bit so a newbie but not too bad. I've got a few bookmarks on the bmwcoders site so am happy to code myself following instructions.

I had done few CIC retrofits, actually have one complete set CIC with DAB. If your car has rear view camera, then good emulator is needed or more advance job to replace JBBF and add PDC.
