n/s rear wheel pointing in more than offside

Post by the shreksta » Sat Oct 01, 2016 1:49 pm

a friend at work was following me home the other night and the next day he said my n/s rear wheel was pointing in more than the offside. having a look myself seems to confirm it, i have pretty new michelin diamaris all round so its not an illusion caused by worn tyres.

any idea what it could be? i have my mot in 10 days so hoping its not anything too bad

its a facelift 2004 3.0d sport with the standard stanced wheels

By pointing in do you mean further in towards the car at the top of the wheel. ? If so this can be caused by worn bottom ball joints. You have to unload the weight and de compress the air suspension to show up the play I the joint, there have been several members experience this, it can wear the inner edges of the tyres prematurely.

yes it does depend on what you mean by pointing in. Could be wheel alignment - needs to be four wheel while alignment that you get done as I understand.

Maybe the adjustments were all done on one corner rather than balanced!

I just posted on this subject elsewhere before I read this. I had my alignment done less than a year ago and had the readout showing green all round, now both rears are red and one had gone to -4degrees??

Wheel alignment can be knocked out in the blink of an eye. I get mine checked twice a year and there is usually some adjustment to be done. BMW will do it on their KDS system and (literally) charge you hundrrds of pounds. Sone tyre places can do 4 wheel alignment, some cant. Phone around and see whats available in your area.

Entirely possible. Folk always seem surprised when they have their alignment done and then "only" a year later it's out. Pot holes, kerbs, speed bumps (depending on type and angle of impact) can all cause it quickly and easily. You can knock it out of alignment within an hour of gavinv it adjusted, let alone a year.
