Tires set up for e53 (245/45 r19 - Front & 275/40 r19 - back) ??

Post by porku » Thu Sep 22, 2016 1:16 pm

Hello,

At the moment i am running on 255/50 R19 Tires, but for winter (we have plenty of snow on winter)

i got realy good deal for :

245/45 r19 - Front
275/40 r19 - back

Will i get some Transfercase / gear shift problems when i run with this setup?  ::)

(Got 2005 e53 with xDrive)

Hi might do they run a certain size for a reason ! I think you will feel every bump on the road , could crack a wheel , things are only cheap if you buy the right size ! Looks like you have been done .

Unless the rolling diameter is correct then the speedo will be out, and if not fully matched front/rear then goodnight transfer box and/or diffs.  Take them back.

BMW recommend the sizes for a reason, don't mess with that!

I made a litle rechearch and discovered following :

BMW recomended size :
Front :  275/40R20
Back : 315/35R20.

And when you use "Tire Calculators" over the internet, then there is no difference in measures with
Front :  245/45 R19
Back : 275/40 R19

So it should be safe pick.

i am not so much afraid to crack my wheels, i have OEM wheels and i have 215/40 R17 on my FWD Opel Vectra, no issues so far with that.. but yeah its not BMW and its not very good car..  :))

For winter tyres I would (and have) gone for 17" wheels. As most of the lads on here have.
Then change to your ''fancy''  wheels for the summer.

Well, thats good idea and i dont have fancy wheels anyway  :))

What tire size you use on 17 wheels? Should be pretty High tires, unless you drive just on the road..
because else you drop your hight.

There should be a tyre plate on the driver 'B' pillar with all the size options and pressures.

Cracking alloys is the least of your issues.  It's the rolling diameters and load rating you need to watch.  Check the sticker to make sure your chosen rubber has the correct rating.
