Strange wrong gear noise whilst towing.

Post by Richard137 » Wed Sep 21, 2016 8:10 am

I was driving back from Snowdonia last week (lots windy roads) towing a Caravan, when briefly (about 3 seconds) the car sounded/felt like it dropped down a gear (auto box) when not really needed. Has anyone had/heard of any similar experiences please?
Have been enjoying my E53 all without any serious faults, and even rewarding it by getting her a full set of rubber but don't fancy a nasty surprise after shelling out for it!

The box will down change when going down hill mine does it from around 30 or below to give engine braking. doesn't need much of a hill either. The previous 4.4 was the same, i find it quite useful when you have 2 fat horses in a trailer hooked up behind.
