ISO extension ?

Post by MindOne » Tue Aug 30, 2016 10:59 pm

Hi guys, I decided to upgrade the factory sat nav/tv unit with an aftermarket android system which is on its way. However I know it requires to use a 5M iso harness extension, does anyone know or have a DIY how to thread this through the car from the dash to the back??

Thanks in advance guys

This would be some thing you can probably get from ebay - and it will be a 10th of the price from China & only a couple of extra weeks.

I'm manufacturing 3D printers here in the UK... and buying Chinese electricals & cables etc has reduced my outgoings by 80%... and they arrive almost as fast and ALWAYS work... unlike the junk I order from the UK - which has sloppy 2nd rate service, poor customer assistance & damaged parts being knowingly sent...

Thanks mate, I have already ordered the head unit and extension cable, I'm just unsure how to remove the factory harness that goes from the front to the back and replace it with the new one so I was looking for a DIY or advice how to do that.

In regards to the quality I absolutely agree, I had an Xtrons android system in my E46 and absolutely swear buy it and the quality, hence want the same experience in my E53  :)

Leave it where it is. No need to remove it.

hi,
you should leave the OEM lead in place, if you sell your original head unit it will probably be to someone who has a nackered head unit. It is very unlikely that anyone is going to upgrade from non satnav to BMW factory satnav, there would be a mountain of wiring to change. Plus you will need that wiring in order to be able to work your OBC to change your dash clock, do MPG, etc etc. My son has just fitted one of those units and is very impressed. If you sell your head unit of course you wont be able to occasionally plug it in to reset clocks etc for example when you disconnect/replace the battery

I will help where I can, I apologise if this reply is too late however. The extension harness connects to where the factory one does near the battery in the rear. you have to thread it through to the front to connect to the new unit. Have you manged to get it sorted?
