Dpf stats review

I have an x40d and read the dpf values today.
Can someone help with what they mean, expected values etc?

My 07 3.0d is showing 32g ash mass and according to Carly it has never requested a regen

I have no idea what the safe values are

Soot is the unprocessed stuff that a DPF regen needs to get rid of next time it runs. 

Ash is what is left after the regen and ideally you need to know the %capacity that is.  Once over 55% of capacity then the DPF needs a specialist clean to get the ash out.

The regen figure from the 07 looks like it has probably done one recently and is running fine.  If that figure rises and nothing happens then that is when you start checking.  It should run every 300 miles or so.

The figure for the 40d could be 6 miles or 6,000 miles.  If the latter then that needs looking at, but if it's 6 miles then it should happen somewhere around 300 miles as long as the car is fully warmed up and doing at least 40mph for twenty minutes.

The usual clue it is running a regen is that all the engine fans keep running for up to 15 mins when you switch off.  It's to stop the (plastic) front wings catching fire from the extreme heat the DPF is producing (700-800°C).

In normal motoring you should not expect a DPF to get full and need replacing at less than 90k miles.  Short journeys are the killers as the system doesn't get hot enough so the regen won't run and it clogs up.  A replacement is the wrong side of £1,500!

I have seen the app in the App Store so obviously that but which is cheapest / best adapter for I phone 6 ?

Just look at mycarly.com

It's all in there.  You need their Gen 2 adapter to make use of the current updates.  The adapter is anywhere from £30-50 depending on where you look (Amazon for example have it for £40) and the App is whatever it currently is on the App Store.

You need the full (paid) version.  I have not seen any other make of adapter so assume you must buy theirs.

Here it is a few days later 10g up on the soot and up 1 on the regen counter.

John O, the regeneration requested box details what mode of regen is being carried out.
On my 07, once the soot hits a certain level, usually above 40grams, it goes from 0 to 1 detailing that it's ready for a regen, once other parameters are met, once this happened it goes to 4 and the regeneration starts, you can then see the soot drop back down to 0 and the regeneration requested box goes from 4 to 0. There was a list somewhere online that detailed what the various codes meant.

That looks like it's in the middle of a regen, the soot has dropped, as soon as it gets to zero or close you will see the distance traveled since regen reset to zero and the  regen requested go from 4.00 back to 0.00.

John_o, how did you get to display that last more detailed set of parameters? I've got the Carly stuff but can't seem to find anything more than the basic 4 parameters for DPF?

Mine seemed defaulted to dpf data but you can select anything to log.
