Carly questions

Post by Marrow » Fri Aug 26, 2016 1:21 pm

Hi all
Seen many threads about Carly and coding.

What's the best adapter to buy ? Link if you have it  :)
What are the best key functions you can activate ?
Are there any things that can go wrong?

Thanks

For full information and adapter for either iPhone or Android look here:

I bought my adapter from Amazon

It is a great fault reader and can add quite a few options to how your car behaves, dependant on version of car. I have an E83 X3 and the coding options are very limited but I am hoping they will change this.

I have The Carly app, and have it on my IPad . Apple devices need the Wifi adapter, I got the official Carly Generation 2 adapter, works on all functions. I tried the cheaper adapter first and it didn't like it on the later software release. So went for the Carly one.
Android phones and tablets need a Bluetooth adapter, can't comment on this as I'm only using Apple devices
Good piece of kit though. Much prefer it to the Scanner 1.4.0 that I used on my E53.
Not sure if the suspension warning delete can be done via Carly though.

I've been using it on android for about a year....

Saved me a lot of grief and hassle with my e93 and the 10k of warranty work that had to be done as a result. I had a lot of problems with misfires that meant 7 new injectors and 8 coil packs in a 320i 4 banger. It helped me know that bmw yet again didn't fix it :-)

For coding it's good on the E models but then again not a lot that you can code effectively (as the modules have to be there)

For the E70 I now have I found it great to be able to scan cars as I test drove them and get the error codes and diagnostics off them.

You need to buy dpf regen and battery coding as extras (about £10 each I think) but I really rate it as an app.

I don't have a windows laptop so inpa isn't an option for me... But for mobile and quick checking it's great..
