So what filters do i need to replace??

Post by rj1986 » Thu Mar 06, 2014 1:04 pm

Right, so oil service time is here, and i'm trying to look at what needs doing (considering i have new F&R pads and discs looming)

Oil filter- Garage
Oil- Garage
Fuel (?) - Garage

Microfilter (pair) - DIY
Pollen filter in dashboard- DIY (?)

Is that everything? No other filters need replacing?

TIA

Bump, does anyone have a copy of the oil service receipt so we can confirm which of the filters are replaced in the oil and filter service...

For an oil service I have been quoted
£275 with the microfilter
£180 for just oil

Parts dept have quoted for 2 filters...

£85 64.11.9.248.294
£25 64.21.9.194.098

Not sure which one of those 2 filters are included in the oil service.

Thanks

Not much in it, but BMW have the oil service listed at £147 and oil service with microfilter on offer for £265 - https://www.bmw-service.co.uk/##service-options

In the end BMW had started a quote at £460 for the oil service and both sets of pollen filters.  I suggested they do the oil server its own for which they charged me @£228.40 (think I got fleeced a little there) but then purchased the filters separately and fitted them myself for £130.15.

Noticed the engine air filter was blocked with plenty of leaves etc.  Not sure how often that is checked\replaced but cleared it out for now.

So in the end I did oil and fuel filter at a local Indy, me supplying parts. Came to about 2 hours labour I think. Filters off eBay - same  manufacture but not BMW branded. Oil from Costco when it's on offer and I stick up with 2 x4l bottles

Micro filter I did myself and was a doddle - part is about £10 off ecp and is literally a 2 minute job. Mine only had the single filter position, and not the one in the cabin.

Air filter... Well that is a right Royal PITA to get off. Took me about 2 hours to get the last bolt out the back of the housing as the firewall blocks easy access. I just left it off as there's enough tension with the others to keep it shut
