Likewise around here there are really no decent indy specialists- I have hunted about for years. There is a local BMW indy but they seem worse than main dealers from the limited dealings I have had with them.  Our local trusted family garage can do some things and will quickly tell me if they are not up to it with the X5, but it is a shame that in an area as big as the Midlands the indies I have come across seem to be not that great.

I 've kept up the extended BMW warranty on the X5 as a necessary ongoing expense in owning a complex car which cost over £70k new with running costs to match - I will do so with the new one as well. The other aftermarket warranties seem more or less useless although some people have been lucky with them.

I bought the extended warranty for the X6 too.  Not cheap, but then neither are major components on these beasts  :) :o

Haven't been on the forum for while and this particular thread has made me come back. Just over 2 years ago we binned the idea of replacing our 2000MY Rav4 for a newer one and as the owner of a F10, asked our dealer to look out for an E53..... a bit of a different animal to a Rav4!.
Two years have passed and as ours was an AUC from BMW it had the warranty to help us through some initial (expensive) problems.
Since then we have had 30,000 miles luxury motoring, I have replaced the summer tyres once, bought a set of winter wheels and tyres which are still ok for this year and have just used Euro Car Parts to buy Brembo pads which have been fitted all round by our local garage.
I sat in the car this week having my food during my work meal break. I was watching the Olympics on the in dash TV; sat in opulent leather like a DFS advert  :D
We can't even think of parting with ours and even when the road tax needs replacing it's worth it. If you are ever tempted to part, take a test drive in a few Japanese/Korean '4x4's and come back to your E53

I have tried a few of those (test only!) and I know exactly what you mean.  I swore that after all the trouble with my E53 I wouldn't buy another BMW, but then went out and bought an X6!  I love it  :D

I know exactly what you mean ...... even after all the trouble with mine i still love it and wouldn't change it for nearly anything else (i'd probably be persuaded for a new x5 or a new Audi allroad)

I know exactly what you mean, after spending that money on it for the m.o.t I thought 'get rid!' but I like it that much I got rid of my Renault Megane work horse and bought a E90 325d M Sport and couldn't be happier! 2 BMW's on the drive and the the e90 goes like stink as its already remapped , found that out after I bought it as well which was a pleasant surprise ! its roughly 255bhp and 520nm torque, so overtaking is effortless, I going to say it feels as quick as my old e46 m3 once you get going. ;D
