Yesterday I was doing various checks and noticed the oil needed topped up. Added a small amount, about a pint, checked the level again and job done. Then went out in the car on a run for about an hour. Just as I was switching off the engine at my destination I got the bong sound and the "check engine oil level" message on the dash. I let the engine cool down and checked the kevel which was fine. There was no oil dripping under the car and none overnight. The only thing I can think of is the oil level sensor playing up?

Possible.... had it happen a few times to me, luckily I was stopped. Got out and oil level was fine, had the garage check it all over in case it was actually a low pressure warning, nope nothing wrong. Bit of a heart stopping moment/ brown pants time tho

Yes, it was for me too, particularly as I knew I'd topped it up an hour earlier. No oil under the car this morning, level fine, and no warning messages today so far.

I had an oil level sensor fail a couple of weeks into owning the car so I would hazard that it the most likely source of the problem.
The oil pressure one went 6-months later >:(
I guess I knew then that I had the Xmas week built lemon and should have done something about it but hey ho....

So im guessing the oil level sensor is somewhere deep in the bowels of the engine and not something I want to rush to change ....

Oil level sensor is bolted into the bottom of the sump I think. Should be straightforward.
