aftermarket headunits

Post by phiggystardust » Fri Aug 06, 2010 10:40 pm

firstly i hope you dont mind me carrying on where we left off with the old forum on this subject

was wondering has anyone gone for the new aftermarket chinese headunits yet, there are loads available but with different specs from different sellers heres 2 links to sellers they also got some nice reverse cameras x specific too :D :D

http://www.car-vision.co.uk/235-bmw-navi-dvd

http://www.tv-in-motion.co.uk/bmw_headunit.html

got to say these have both been excellent when you get hold of them to discuss, they still have these on preorder at the mo as trying to iron out a few teething problems, spoke to tv in motion today and they are saying they are not releasing thiers quite yet as they are polishing out all problems first as slight issues with full integration.. cant wait to get my hands on mine ..

beware they are on the bay and all look the same but differ with regard to internal hardware and software apparently

cheers guys ;)

Is the headnit supposed to be a complete unit - no need for the other modules in the back? Amp, TV/Radio moudules all built-in?

Hi Sanj

Supposedly the units are supposed to be straight plug and play. I think they integrate with most of the on board kit.

Im hoping a lot more questions will be answered once it turns up and its installed.

The guy I have been chatting to at car vision reckons the system for the BMW has been upgraded over the other units they sell.

I will keep you all updated

I think the Ttints units are the Dynavin system.

At the moment there seem to be very few people manufacturing for the x5. Most of them seem to be for the e46 and e39.

I will try and do a video and some piccies when mine turns up

They look like a bargain and a massive improvement on the BMW standard head units.

It should be remembered that these units are designed to replace the MID or IRIS type X5 radio, for these they should be plug and play with a little extra work for things like GPS antenna.

If you already have the OEM Nav system then the install is significantly more involved. With the OEM system ALL the connections you need are in the boot, so these will need extending to the dash, there are at least 13 wires (8 for speakers, constant power, constant 12v, switched 12V, black light and iBus) plus ground and the aerial connection that will need extending and routing through the cabin.

Another update......the guy is still finding glitches in the software so doesn't want to send them out whilst he is still finding problems. Apparently it was the same when developing the e46 model. He hopes its not going to take too long.

Have offered myself as a guinea pig for when he thinks it might be almost sorted. Also mentioned that there is some interest around but at the moment will just have to wait and see. MIght be a little while before i can give any other updates.
