HELP URGENTLY NEEDED!!!!!!!

Post by Le Mans » Tue Jun 07, 2016 7:59 pm

Hi again I've made a big boo boo and desperately need some help. I've removed the battery from my BMW X5 06 plate Le Mans and charged it up. I have now put the battery back and things are not working, the things that are not working are the central locking, interior lights unlock button from inside the car, the boot won't open now both rear windows won't go down, front windscreen wipers not working, passenger rear door won't open and it says self levelling susp inactive. Can anybody help me with this? I've checked fuses almost everywhere nothing seems to have blown, was all working fine but the battery went dead and that's why I charged it, any advice help or comments would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Is battery fully charged? Are the terminals REALLY tight?

If so, wait 2 hours for the car to die completely, then take a look. Don't panic just yet. sounds like the battery atm.  :)

Hi my car was written off on 25th May and worked perfectly until then. The car was recovered to an accident repair centre near where I live, but in the meantime I agreed a price with the insurance company and bought the car back. The accident repair centre kept it until Thursday last week, I then went to see them and told them I had bought the car back from insurance company and they offered to deliver it back free of charge the next day which was very kind of them, anyway the car was delivered Friday morning and is sitting on my driveway everything still working as it should and have been sourcing parts for repairs as I intend to fix it anyway was away for the weekend came back Monday thought I would just turn the engine over to keep the battery charged as while it was in body shop for a week or so I can't see them starting it up to keep battery charged I tried to turn engine over and nothing well the sound of a dying battery, so took the battery off straight away and put it on charge overnight put it back on today and nothing works as in post above car starts and drives but  none of the above things I mention are working, now. Have gone through every fuse I could with a light tester and all seem fine run the car for about an hour and turned ignition off started it up fine but still nothing works I have now ordered a new battery as I'm guessing my battery is kaput, I spoke to the original owner of the car as we became friends and he had owned the car for nearly 10 years and since 2007 and as only changed the battery once since his ownership that he recalls. Does anyone have any thoughts about what my problem could be? The rear wiper works but not the front ones, just been out to the car and still all the same problems but it started up first time. Thanks for all your help and sorry for the long winded explanation.

HELP URGENTLY NEEDED!!!!!!!

If it starts and run its pointing at something else at fault maybe the module which controls the lights/door locking has failed, its best to have it scanned for fault codes first before jumping into expensive conclusions.
Try disconnect the battery terminals neg. first followed by positive, short them together for 10mins,reconnect positive then negative this is BMW procedure to reset/reboot modules.

Take the battery back off!  Touch the terminals together for a few seconds and then wait as Sanj suggested.  Then +ve on, then -ve on.  With any luck it will recover.

Disconnecting the battery for 30 mins is usually BMWs first action and fixes computer issues most of the time.  There are dozens of systems which all gave to get working together and if an error during boot-up occurs it can result in a tizzy fit.

FYI, It should be charged on the car via the under-bonnet points (though that might be tricky given recent events) or in the car.  Avoid removing the battery completely unless you absolutely have to.....for the reasons you are now discovering.

There is a key resetting procedure on here somewhere.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Did you disconnect the terminals for at least 30mins or touched together to reset?

Do you have a diagnostic scanner of some kind that you can pull some codes to pinpoint what could have failed?

Hi yes engine starts and runs fine no issues there. I don't have no diagnostic tools to fault find just a light with a pin on the end for testing bits n bobs but no scanner.
