Re: PDC question
But with the facelift the bumper has to come off or at least pulled forward as they are housed/surrounded by the steel of the bumper itself.
That's the problem - surrounded by metal work (to stop easy access by thieves is my only thought)???
But you can also just tease the bumper forward and get to the PDC's but PITA agreed!
All sorted though Mikee?

Daft question this.....but if it's dead (and you know it's dead) can you not run a self tapper into the middle of it and drag it out that way?
I speak not from experience....just throwing an idea in the air
Daft question this.....
Why?
PDC sensors are held in with 3 plastic (click-in-place) clips - all in a spherical shape to match the housing. Pull them 'outwards' and you expand or worse-case scenario, break the clips (if you can prise the sensor out). Will make fitting the new one a prob....

Re: PDC question
I'll check when i fit my other one but afaik they will not come out forwards...otherwise wouldn't they drop out as you have to release the two clips on the back to pull them out(backwards).
I'm pretty sure that when pushed back in and clicked into place behind the clips that they are up against the rim of the hosing that prevents them from coming out!!!!
As said i'll take another look when i get a replacement for my other duff one

Re: PDC question
Who knows!?!
All I know is that in my kitchen I've got 2 dud sensors and 2 black plastic surrounds with 3 metal spring clips all in tact, and I've not gone any where near removing or moving the bumper. Like I said before the sensors when fitted into the housing and on the car did have a bit of play in them, so maybe whoever (or is it whomever? I never get this right!) had the X before me may have removed them and somehow made it possible for them to be removed easier.
I'm just grateful i aint gotta remove my bumper!

Re: PDC question
Are the parking sensors supposed to come on automatically or do they need to be turned on via the switch?
For example, if sitting in traffic and the PDC is off, ie no green light on, and you get too close to the car in front should the sensors automatically come on and start beeping?

Re: PDC question
No, they come on when you select reverse gear.
Or you switch them on with the dash switch.
Or you switch them on with the dash switch.

Re: PDC question
That's what I thought. Only the missis is telling me otherwise and had me convinced that they came on automatically. I would come out with a witty puchline here, but I'd end up in the same lonely gentlemen's club as Andy Gray and Richard Keys, so I'll refrain.

Re: PDC question
I think you should do the right thing now pvr, and resign as the Site Administrator, before you get sacked.
Tomorrow a video might surface on Youtube of you asking another site Administator (AW8??) to tuck your ethernet connection down your trousers.

Re: PDC question
Right, after a lot of arsing around and the post office holding my parcel for a week for me I finally got me hands on the new PDC sensor. After a bit of filing on the connector, the new sensor slid into place perfectly. Turned on the pdc button in the motor and checked all the sensors for the little ticking noise.
All working. Cracking..... or so I thought.
The sensors seemed to work for about 30 seconds and now all I get when I engage reverse or manually switch on the PDC button is a constant beep from the rear, and nothing from the front. I've cleaned all the sensors and moved the car back and forth a few times but no change. Any Ideas? Is there a way to reset the system?

Re: PDC question
Just thought i would add an update to this thread as i did a bit more work on the x last week in the pdc department and now i can definatley say without anty doubt that the front pdc's (on a facelift model)can not come out forwards (even if you put a self tapper in and tried to drag it out).
The rear ones are housed in two plastic clip parts that come apart but the front ones are housed in a moulded platic part that is welded to the bumper (all four of them) and with the two corner ones being at a 90degree angle and the two middle ones having a kink in the length where the plugs connect they will not pull out forward.
So the bumper has to come off or be released/eased forward enough to draw them out from the rear.
I had every one off last weekend and cleaned them up and re fitted them (this time with a little clear silicon) to try and avoid water ingress.I also noticed that the water can get into the wires and connectors by tracking down the wires themselves so i smeared a small amount of silicon at the point where the wires enter the plug aswell.
And after all that pi$$ing around thay still aren't working
i really hate these things now
and with all the jobs/maintenance i have done on this car this has to be/should be nearly the easiest but it's the most frustrating
They were working well last week other than the front middle left not working at all.So having got hold of another one cheap as chips of fleabay
i then took of the front bumper for the umteenth time and checked that the cheapo sensor was working by swapping it with the new one i fitted last time (knowing that one works)and it worked a treat....... bargain i thought at the price of £4 delivered
So then i put the other one back in place and swapped the new one over with the front left duff one re fitted everything for the frony left to still be playing up
So i'm guessing that it is either the module in the boot which i doubt as the others work or the wiring to that sensor is faulty perhaps!!!!!
Ohh well that's for another day and we'll just have to put up with the on and off sensors for now
here's afew pics to explain my waffle above
this is a rear one as you can see the inner housing and as you can see the sensor will not pull out forwards because of the shape of it.

here is a rear corner one same as the front two middle and rear ones (all six the same shape)with it's housings inner and outer.

and here are MORE new parts
non expensive this time mind

Dry my beuaty's

you can see from this pic the front pdc's in order with the two 90 degree angled ones at each end/corner

easy access to rears with a diesel

here is a pic of the inside of the front bumper and shows how the front housings are welded in place

that sucker aint goin through that hole forwards

damn that bumper is big when it's off the car
