X5 4.4i 2005 - new or recon engine needed
Re: X5 4.4i 2005 - Engine rebuild [WORK IN PROGRESS]
Little update on this, visited the garage again yesterday, the engine and gearbox lump is out the car and should have been all cracked open today. I'll pass by again next week to get some more pics, so far so good

X5 4.4i 2005 - new or recon engine needed
Got your motor back yet? Any updates?
Re: X5 4.4i 2005 - new or recon engine needed
More updates, engine cracked open last week and we found the damage: 1 piston cracked, 2 pistons on the same side worn / coating scratched, 1 liner scored.
Engine has been rebuilt and it's being fitted back on the car today / tomorrow. They're trying to have the car ready Saturday or Monday.
Will update the thread once I've collected the car.

Any ideas about the possible cause?

Picked up the car few weeks ago, all working perfectly fine, no more engine rattling, no more high oil consumption, done about 300 miles so far.
I'll be changing oil and filter at 600 miles, again in another 1000 miles and again in another 1000 miles. Then I can revert to normal.
6 month warranty issued with the car.
Cracking deal and really happy with the result so far. I'll report back later once I've done more miles and replaced the oil and filter.

Glad to hear that things are running well. Look forward to your longer term reports as I have a feeling this may be in my future if I stick with my 4.4.

Engine still running fine, over 1 year now.
I now have some random not starting problems. I've replaced the batteries in the keys. INPA and iDiag sometime show DME and EWS not in synch: "EWS preventing manipulation". If I leave the car for a few minutes or hours it starts fine.
I'm considering replacing all units: DME, EWS, keys + ignition lock from another E53 N62 car.
Any other ideas?
