Strange popping sound

Morning all I hope you are all well.

My 2009 30D M Sport has developed a strange popping sound when the vehicle is up to normal running temperature! The sound is like a rhythmic bass drum beat and is very noticeable at idle from outside the vehicle. The issue doesn't not appear to be affecting performance or causing any other issues that I can tell at this point. The noise is definitely from the front somewhere I though it may have been exhaust related but you can not hear the pop through the tail pipes so I gues not.

I've booked the car is for a health check with my local dealer but they are quite busy at the moment and won't be able to see the car for two weeks so in the mean time I thought I would seek some advice from the good people here. Update : a bit of further research has lead me to believe the issue could be caused by a blocked EGR valve or potentially faulty EGR solenoid. I should hopefully have some time early next week to investigate this and I will post up my findings.
